This series just keeps getting better. Each new book brings more of Tess' past to light, filling out her character. As in every book previously, once I started I literally could not put this down. The action seldom slows down enough to catch your breath, the characters made me cheer Tess on as she dealt with each one. I understand more after this book what makes Tess tick - why she tries to avoid relationships, why she tries to bring justice to victims, and what led her to take on this latest mission. I especially like how the author provides a "bonus" book at the end of each novel. These Black Files are like putting whipped cream on pumpkin pie - just make them that little bit extra special. I really appreciate the work and time the author puts into these bonus books. As always, I'm ready for the next in the series!Product details

A gang of vicious, malicious and callous thugs kill a convenience store owner, Chiang, and his dog, Bashe. The police don't have any clues or evidence so the case is dead in the water before Chaing's body is even cold. Tess Williams is especially hit hard by this murder as it evokes memories of her past. So, she has decided that this ruthless gang deserves to be the next recipients of her brand of justice...but where will she start? No evidence, no clues...only a video tape that was posted, and removed, from the web. It showed the act but not the head or faces of the perpetrators. But, Tess has some advantages that the police don't have....her determination and her hacker, Bomb.
A great series that should not be missed. In each book, we learn more about Tess and what makes her tick. There are hints that we may also learn more about Bomb as we did learn some things in this book about him that did not come out in past books. I love seeing these characters develop and love the storylines. Keep them coming, Steve!
I preordered this book and was very much looking forward to reading it, as I had really enjoyed the previous books. Although I believe Mr.Lee is a talented writer, I was a bit let down with this book. First, I don't see Tess as a victim, but a survivor. To bestow on her the sexual hangups is rather insulting to her character. Can't we have a strong woman who owns who she is, sexually and all, without the common misconception of, "once a victim, always a victim"? I don't recall Dirty Harry, James Bond or the like realizing after a consensual sexual experience that they just didn't enjoy it and would have to fake it better next time. (You know, because they still needed all the snuggles.) I would like more Tura Satana and less "if she could just love and be loved." I did like the comparison (intentional?) To Thomas Hardy's, Tess of the D'Urbervilles. I look forward to reading the next installment and I hope that I'm not disappointed.

Great series to read, wakes you up to the crimes against good people,that sometime don't get the justice they deserve. Good recommend.
A storekeeper and his dog are murdered by gang members in an initiation rite, and a video of the deed is posted online. The murder reminds Tess of her grandfather who was killed in his store when she was a little girl. She witnessed the event and tired to save him but was unable to do so.
This book is good, and gives more exposition as to what makes Tess tick, but I didn't like it as much as the others in the series because I felt that the climactic fight scene was disappointing. It didn’t seem like much of a challenge to her and thus the fight was not very exciting.
This book is a bit different from the others, as other reviewers state. There is a lot more background info in the main character and there is only one main story that runs throughout the book, where usually the main character goes off in a few different directions as the main story runs along. This time the only diversion is early on. So it didn't seem as hectic as the first five, where the character tends to get bombarded with action and danger, this one is more of a slow development. Still a fun read, the main character certainly has some demons in her closet, as we all do. Fun with a female heroine.

~Our Tess, Vigilante, stalks into the fifth book of this series, wielding her weapons of discipline,training, and her body as both a sexual tool and as a weapon. I loved seeing more personal details about her emotional issues. I love the fact that the author revealed very realistic insight to STRONG VICTIMS!! They overcome obstacles that would cripple weaker persons!!
We've had short views into Tess's previous life in each of the previous books. We know that she was a victim,will always be a victim,with incredible emotional difficulties that never leave true victims.
Her strength lies in her amazing ability to work with her limitations!!
Tess is beginning to splinter a bit at times in this book as she faces her own demons, and literal death several times.
This is the Best book of the series--so far, anyway!!!!
